Everything on this blog comes from the questions we are asked on surveys and the problems we see on moving day. The aim is not to write about moving in the abstract; it is to cover the specific decisions that cause problems, in enough detail that you can act on the advice before you book anything.
Relocation advice falls into two categories. The first is the kind that saves you money by changing what you do beforehand, such as how much you actually need to pack, what materials suit which items, and how to read a quotation so you can see whether you are being charged for something you did not ask for. The second is the kind that reduces risk, such as how to check a mover, what to keep with you rather than in a box, and what to do when a delivery is delayed.
The Four Questions That Come Up Most
In our experience, almost every enquiry reduces to one of these four, and each of them has a short answer that is more useful than a long one.
How do I know a mover is legitimate? Ask for a written quotation with an itemised breakdown, ask to see the vehicle before booking, and check that there is a real person answering the phone who has visited the area you are moving to. A mover who cannot give you any of these is telling you something useful.
Should I pack everything myself? Packing is where the time goes, not the driving. If you pack it yourself you still pay the same crew to carry, load and secure it, and you lose the protection of layered wrapping by people doing it daily. Packing it yourself usually makes sense for a small number of fragile items you care about, not for a whole household.
What should I keep in my own bag? Identification, medicines, jewellery, passports and other original documents, bank passbooks, laptops, one full change of clothes per person travelling, and anything irreplaceable. Keep these with you rather than in a crate, because the one moment a box is lost is far more likely to be during multiple handling than during transit.
How do I compare two quotations? On like for like. Check that the packing standard is the same, that the same services are included on both sides, that the two addresses are the same, and that nothing important is listed as an extra. A lower figure that excludes packing is not a cheaper quote, it is a different job.
What We Write About
Our guides cover five areas in detail.
- Choosing and checking a mover - what to ask, what to verify and what the warning signs are.
- Packing and materials - which material suits which item, and where wrapping is genuinely necessary rather than routine.
- Packing and unpacking checklists - room-by-room lists, including the specific things people forget.
- Local and intercity logistics - what changes about a move when the distance increases, and what to plan for on delivery day.
- Corporate and office relocation - decommission windows, rebuild sequencing and keeping a business running through a move.
How to Use These Guides
Read the ones closest to your situation before you book rather than after, because the decisions they cover are mostly decisions you still have time to make. If a guide raises a question about your own move that it does not answer, ask us directly. We are easier to reach than most moving companies are, and you will get a straight answer rather than a sales pitch.
Start with the guide below, and if you want indicative starting ranges for any service before you call, they are on the pricing page. For a written quotation based on your actual situation, call +91 7269006980 or message us on WhatsApp.
Questions Worth Asking Us Specifically
These are the questions that arrive most often on WhatsApp, phrased as customers actually ask them, and phrased as the honest answers rather than the reassuring ones.
Is your team insured, and is my stuff covered? We are insured to carry goods, and transit cover is arranged for long-distance moves as part of the booking. Cover depends on the declared value of what is being carried, which is why the loading inventory is worth getting right. You get the details in writing before the move, not after.
Will you move a washing machine and a fridge? Yes, subject to the survey. They travel upright wherever the manufacturer allows it, with hoses secured and water drained, and they are strapped separately from the rest of the load so nothing can move against them.
Can we give you a discount for comparing quotations? No, and the reason is worth understanding. A discount funded by thinner packing or a smaller crew is not a saving, it is a deferral. What we will do is remove work you do not actually need, and show you where it goes in the quotation.
Do you move things you will not take responsibility for? There are a few: cash and jewellery you should keep with you, perishable food, plants and live animals where transport is unsuitable, hazardous materials such as gas cylinders and fuel, and anything of irreplaceable sentimental value that would be safer carried personally. We will say so at survey rather than at the loading door.
What is the single most common mistake people make? Not having decided what is going. An undecided box gets packed like everything else, and then it is carried, loaded, transported, unloaded, carried in and unpacked, and thrown out at the end. Deciding first is free and saves all of that.
